Oppo is releasing the latest member of the Oppo Reno smartphone family, the Oppo Reno 8 series on July 18.
Oppo revealed Oppo Reno 8 and Oppo Reno 8 Pro in Flipkart teasers (opens in new tab) and the Oppo website (opens in new tab). But they didn’t say anything about the Oppo Reno 8 Pro Plus that was launched in China last month.
Moving on with the teasers, we can see that Oppo is bringing out the same Reno 8 series that they launched in China, but with a slight name change. They may be bringing the Oppo Reno 8 Pro Plus that they launched in China as the Oppo Reno 8 Pro in India. Let’s talk about it.
Oppo Reno 8 Pro: Main specs
Oppo Reno 8 Pro teaser on Flipkart shows “Powered by MariSilicon” on camera and teaser page talks a lot about Marisilicon X image NPU. This separate imaging chipset is not available on Chinese Oppo Reno 8 Pro but is available only on Oppo Reno 8 Pro Plus smartphone.
Furthermore, the thickness of the phone is 7.34mm and it seems to match the Reno 8 Pro Plus.
Now that we know exactly which phone will launch this 18th, let’s talk more about the phone.
The Oppo Reno 8 Pro will likely come with a 6.7-inch AMOLED Full HD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate. And it would be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8100-Max, a custom version of the Dimensity 8100 chipset.
Coming to the cameras, this phone gets a 50MP main camera, Sony IMX766 sensor with OIS. Oppo is still sticking to that sensor, which is the same one used in many of the phones in the Oppo group like OnePlus Nord 2, OnePlus Nord 2T, Oppo Reno 7 Pro, and more. Talking about the secondary cameras, there is an 8MP ultra wide-angle camera and a 2MP macro sensor. It also comes with a 32MP IMX709 selfie camera.
The phone is backed by a 4500mAh battery and charges on an 80W SuperVOOC charger.
Oppo Reno 8: Main specs
The Oppo Reno 8 Pro released in China appears to be the one arriving in India as the Oppo Reno 8. Not the Vanilla Reno 8 released separately. But it is also possible that this is a completely different model from the Chinese Reno 8 Pro, as the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 phones have not yet reached the Indian coast. And Oppo has yet to reveal the chipset they will be using on this phone in the teasers.
Speaking of features, this phone would likely come with a 6.62-inch AMOLED Full HD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate.
Speaking of the camera, it would come with a 50MP main camera with OIS, the same Sony IMX766 sensor used in the Reno 8 Pro that we mentioned earlier. The secondary camera system also remains the same, an 8MP ultra-wide and 2MP macro. And the selfie camera would also remain the same as that phone, a 32MP selfie camera.
The battery is also the same as the other phone, a 4500mAh with 80W SuperVOOC charging.
Marisilicon X NPU arrives in the Reno series
Oppo has been working on its imaging NPU, Marisilicon X for some time now. And they previously integrated it with Oppo Find X5 Pro. The Marisilicon X SoC combines an advanced NPU, ISP and multi-layer memory architecture for phones developed by Oppo, and is said to improve the phone’s imaging capability.
Now it’s coming to the Reno series. If it’s going to bring any real improvements to the phone, we’ll have to wait and see the results of the camera after the phone’s release.
